Hello, everybody!

I live in CT and it is very easy to get a CCW permit as long as you are sane and law abiding (as it should be).  My favorite is my sig 229.  Large, yes, but then I'm large!

What do people choose to carry concealed in the big city especially on the Left Coast (CA) and the East Coast? (Massachusetts, down through NY, down through Philly, down to Washington DC)?

A short barrel pistol grip shotgun is appropriate in liberal land.

Same in Texas.  Law abiding citizen needs to take a 10 hr coarse, fire 50 rds in a proficiency test, & a background check. (this I think is too extensive here.)

That 229 is not too big w/ quality gear.

You cannot afford to be made in NYC!

I believe it's 3 yr. manditory in the city. Not a gun friendly place. The only ones with handguns are cops and thugs.
Seems like the more the citizens need to protect themselves the less the politicians are willing to help them.

At the risk of being thought of as providing a smart aleck answer, I endeavor never to go to any large cities on the east left coast or west left coast.  So far I've been successful for the past 28 years.  I haven't been to Chicago for 15 years and ain't goin back.

I grew up on the West Coast. Central California. They will only issue CCW to retired leo, judges, and those who can prove that will or have been attacked outside their home. My stepfather was a chief park ranger and started a private investigation, private security, and bail enforcement company and it took him a lot of foot work and talking to law enforcement to get his CCW. He carried a 4 inch ruger 357 and a 38 snubby on his ankle. They only give out a certain amount per quarter and so many a year there. And at the time if you did carry with your ccw you were not allowed to have one in the whole.

This is not a smart aleck answer.  It is a smart answer.  There are some places I refuse to go.  NY, New Jersey, Massachucetts, Chicago, California, all come to mind fast.  Others may fall in the same catagory.
'Coarse I am a home body anyway.  175 miles from the Gulf/Mexico & I have seen it once.  Crossed the Houston ship chanel 3 times.  I have not seen all of Angelina County yet so cant see a reason to "travel."

HJ,  I have family in NYC which I visit periodically.  If your friends have a link to that directive I'd appreciate a copy of it.  Thanks [/quote]

PM me and I will provide you with a copy of Commissioner Kelly's memo in question via e-mail.

We live in Pittsburgh, and visit Philly several times a year, ALWAYS armed. Me, with my Glock 27, my wife with a S&W Airweight .38. I have family in NY state (none in NYC), but leery of carrying up there, due to very strict gun laws...

I've lived all my life here in MA. Have had my LTC since I got out of military service back in the '70's. Each township or county has varying restrictions on your ability to obtain a LTC. Basically, it's up to the Chief-Of-Police in your town.

I carry a SP-101, 24-7 here. The number of home invasions is rising dramatically, which is one of the reasons. The only areas restricted from carry here (for correctly licensed individuals) are the Capital Buildings and most schools & campuses throughout the state. Other than that you are good to go.
