women only classes

Let's start a list of firearms schools that offer women-only classes!  Please note if the class is taught by a man or a woman.

Firearms Academy of Seattle offers women-only versions of their basic and intermediate classes: Handgun Safety Seminar (1 day), Concealed Carry 101 (1 day), Home Defense 101 (1 day), and Defensive Handgun (2 day). Classes are taught by women and the school is located in Washington state. www.firearmsacademy.com

International Training, Inc. (ITI) offers Women Only Weekends (WOW!), which are two-day classes in firearm use, a little unarmed work, and vehicle operations. The school has facilities in TX and in VA, but I think the WOW classes are a TX exclusive. See http://www.itiwsi.com

Just out of curiosity I googled [i]women's gun clubs[i]  I was amazed at how many I found.  Near the top was a listing for one at Mt. Holyoke, MA.  Massachussetts!?  Yep, Massachussetts.

I'm looking for one in TX that's not so far away that my last wife will have no problems attending.  I've decided that we are too close for me to teach her to shoot and I'm not sure she would mesh with some of the CHL instructors here (though she might -- she certainly deals with me well enough).  If you run across any, I'll be interested.

Mickey,

I do believe that the great mecca of firearms training schools, Gunsite, is located in Texas and has an occasional women-only class.

Also, above I forgot to mention one more. This is a small start up and I don't know a lot about it (never met the people involved), but I love the name!

Tactical Pink is the name of the school. All of their classes are "for women," but I don't know how many they offer or whether they offer co-ed classes too or not. They're in Northern Virginia. http://www.tactical-pink.com/index.html

Vicki Farnam, John Farnam's wife is also an excellent trainer who runs womens' only defensive handgun classes. She and John own Defense Training International and travel from location to location throughout the US.

Their website is: www.Defense-Training.com

Vicki co-authored a number of top notch books on teaching women to shoot. They can be found on her publisher's website: http://www.dtipubs.com

pax and Doc, thanks.  We've considered Gunsite but she wants to get a little more experience before she goes out there and "embarrasses" herself.   That's not going to happen, of course, but until her self-confidence comes up a little more I can't see trying to push her into it.  I think she's a little intimidated by Gunsite's reputation.

One of my daughters lives in the Dallas area and the other lives in the San Antonio area and my wife's son lives near Kansas City.  I've checked several gun clubs in both areas so we could perhaps kill two birds with one stone.  So far, no luck.

I'm hoping to find a "Ladies Day" or a womens' self defense course, or somesuch.   Shoot, I'd even spring for my daughter(s) or daughter-in-law to go.

Let's see now.  Could I cut out the beer and potato chips for six months?  That ought to do it.   Grin

Mickey,

ITI, referenced in my first post, is located about an hour & a half from San Antonio (in Dilley). You might want to check them out.

Texas Gal

Thanks a potful.  I sent the website to my daughter in the Dallas area.  Since I've got three grand daughters and a grand daughter-in-law there, this might get expensive.  Oh, well.  I guess I don't need a Mercedes after all.   Grin

PAX

I was particularly impressed at the ITI site when I discovered that besides weapons training they also offer true defensive driving.  I always worry about my wife when she drives alone, particularly out of town.  This has opened an avenue of new possibility for us.

Thanx and pax.

Not sure when it will be up and running but Wicen Learning Center about 45 minutes outside of Filly will be running women only classes in the future (per Lori Wicen, who I took my NRA instructors training with). Very good people, decent range facilities and tons of experienced shooters around.

Whew! Just spent my weekend down in Dilley, Texas, at the ITI facility. That facility is amazing -- every goodie you could possibly imagine is on the campus somewhere. We did one day of driving and one day of shooting. Nice people, competent and articulate instructors.

Randy smith; www.pistoltraining.com; in central Pennsylvania offers semi-private womens only personal defense classes.
Two day basic course; eight students with three instructors.

Currently all men instructors.  We have all taken Vicki Farnam's Teaching Women to Shoot. We are all committted to teaching women how to shoot / defend themselves.
