I joined the PA State Police in 1978.  The Model 19 that you showed photos of was their 75th Anniversary Commemorative Issue. It "came out" in 1980. Each enlisted member was allowed to purchase one.....you could get your badge number engraved on it. I "know" where there are two of them.   Wink
The PSP carried Colt revolvers for 75+ years. They could not come to terms with Colt at the time of the anniversary....so they went with the S&W 19.

In 2005 they came out with a Berretta 96D Commemorative for their 100th Anniversary Gun.   Roll Eyes  They were carrying Berrettas at the time.

Just a little PSP and gun trivia.

Love that S&W Model 19......I have the 4" Bbl. and had the gun worked on by Austin Behlert when he was in NJ.
Great Shooter...

Hey Stingray, where ya been?  Haven't heard from you for days! Wink
Thanks for the history.  You law enforcement types are alright.  Good job.  I assumed you're retired now.  Grin
Love those S & W's   I have a collection of the model 19 that I have used in different capacities around the west.  Still carry the 19-3 2.5 inch.  Used to punch the 4 X 4 dead on at 10 yards.  Not so good now.  I just clip the edge on the first shot.  Oh well, I guess I could defend myself if necessary. Cheesy  But then who wants to tackle an old man.  Shocked Some of those I caused to spend some time in the iron bar resorts are now getting out but they are as old or older then me so maybe no threat.   Lips Sealed
Anyway this is about those S & W's.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi O.C......nice to know that someone misses me!!  Grin

I have been shoveling snow; riding snowmobiles and doing a little bullseye shooting....have to love those indoor ranges this time of year!  You know; us retired guys have to keep busy.  Smiley

Hard to surpass the look, feal and function of a good revolver like the S&W19

Stay safe.

Here are a couple of my old stand-bys:

...

S&W K-22 Combat Masterpiece, circa 1970.

...

Colt Single Action Army, circa 1976.

...

GP-100 & SP-101 which I shoot regularly at the range these days.

Back in the 70's when I was a young Detroit P.O I sold a Colt Python for a Mdl -19 and never regreted it. I DO wish I had the Python now too.
